Fans, friends and family of American actress and singer Marion Ramsey are heartbroken to hear that she has passed away at the age of 73.
She first appeared on screens as Tracy Davis in a 1976 episode of The Jeffersons but would go on to land her most iconic role in 1984’s Police Academy.
Continuing with the franchise, she reprised the character of Sgt. Laverne Hooks in five sequels, from 1985’s Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment to 1989’s Police Academy 6: City Under Siege.
Her final film role came in 2018’s When I Sing (she played Reggie).
As of yet, her cause of death remains unconfirmed; her management at Roger Paul Inc informed the BBC that she passed away at her Los Angeles home on Thursday, January 7th 2021.

She did not have children and is survived by her brother.
The statement offered by Roger Paul Inc touches upon the loss felt by those who loved and admired her and her work:
“Her passion for performing and sharing her heart with the world was immense. Marion carried with her a kindness and permeating light that instantly filled a room upon her arrival. The dimming of her light is already felt by those who knew her well. We will miss her, and always love her.”
She also boasted a career on Broadway, having showcased her talents in 1978’s Eubie!, which served as a biography exploring jazz pianist Eubie Blake.
Other screen roles included Return to Babylon (Miss Applebaum), MacGyver (Police Officer), Lavantula (Teddie) and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! (Harriet).
